𝐄𝐑𝐂 𝐄𝐍𝐆𝐀𝐆𝐄𝐒 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇 𝐑𝐄𝐆𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐅𝐈𝐕𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐄𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐒

The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) completed a sensitization exercise on Thursday, July 18, meeting citizens of Region Five, including officials of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) at Fort Wellington, West Coast Berbice.
During the lively interaction in the RDC Region Five Boardroom, stakeholders were enlightened on the role, functions, work plan and efforts of the Commission in the execution of its Constitutional mandate.
Stakeholders were able to engage the Commissioners with meaningful discussions on concerns raised. The Commission also took the opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to promoting harmony and good relations among all the people of Guyana and called for stakeholders to help in this regard.
The ERC’s delegation comprised of Shaikh Moeenul Hack, Chairman and and his fellow Commissioners Mr. Deon Dick (Ras Khafra), Mr. Norris Witter, Mr. Ashton Simon, Ms. Chandrowtie Sarran, Reverend Rodwell Porter, Pandit Krishn Sharma, as well as Ms. Gomin Camacho, CEO and secretariat staff.
The ERC’s Chairman reminded those gathered that they are all Guyanese, despite coming from different ethnic backgrounds and appealed to citizens to contribute to peace, harmony, and leaving a good legacy.
Earlier in the day, the visiting team met with Mr. Vickchand Ramphal, Chairman of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) , Mr. Rion Peters, Vice Chairman and Councillors of Region Five (Mahaica/Berbice). The RDC Chairman welcomed the team and promised to work with the ERC in executing its mandate.
Since it was reconstituted in March 2023, the ERC’s Board of Commissioners held several engagements with regional officials, stakeholders and residents during outreaches to Regions across Guyana.
