The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) officially launched its ERC T10 Harmony League cricket tournament on Thursday, November 14th, 2024, marking the start of an exciting cricket tournament designed to foster harmony and good relations across Guyana in a celebration of sportsmanship, cultural diversity, and unity.
Held at its 66 Peter Rose & Anira Streets, Queenstown Georgetown office, the launch highlighted the ERCโ€™s commitment to inclusivity and its mission to eliminate discrimination by creating spaces where Guyanese from all backgrounds can come together through sport.
Shaikh Moeenul Hack, ERCโ€™s Chairman, in delivering the feature address noted that โ€œat the ERC, our mission is clear: to promote harmony and understanding among all the ethnic groups residing in Guyana. Through this tournament, we take another meaningful step towards that goal. The ERC T10 Harmony League is more than a cricket tournament; it is a platform for unity, inclusion, and mutual respect. It brings together teams from across Guyana, teams from Kuru Kururu, Mocha, Zeeburg, Diamond, Essequibo, Mahdia, East Bank, and Central Georgetown, among many other locations, creating an opportunity for players from various communities to connect, compete, and grow together.
The management and logistics of the tournament is being done in partnership with Oak Tree and will feature 48 registered teams, with each team comprising 15 players.
According to John Ramsingh, one of the tournament organisers โ€œWe at Oak Tree are happy to assist the ERC in executing this excellent tournament. Unifying people and communities through sport is a noble endeavour that aligns with our core objectives in promoting the sport. Judging from previous T10 tournaments, there has been quality play on the field, and we certainly hope to see such continue, and fans come out in their numbers.โ€
The tournament will kick off with games on November 17 at the Transport Sports Club Ground at Thomas Lands followed by matches on November 23 and 24, November 30 and December 1, culminating with the finals on December 8, 2024.
With free entry for both teams and spectators, the tournament offers enticing prizes: $500,000 for the winning team, $250,000 for the runner-up, $100,000 each for the two semi-finalists, and $60,000 each for the “Man of the Final,” “Most Runs,” and “Most Wickets,” along with magnificent trophies that have been sponsored by Trophy Stall.
The ERC T10 Harmony League is a significant initiative aimed at fostering unity through shared experiences, warmly embraced by cricket enthusiasts nationwide.
